About Ask About HVAC

Last updated October 18, 2026

Ask About HVAC answers the questions people type into a search bar when the house is too hot, too cold, too humid or making a new noise. Each answer starts with the short version, then shows the reasoning and the sources behind it.

What we cover

Central air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, thermostats, ducts, humidity and indoor air, routine maintenance and the energy cost of running it all. We write for homeowners and renters, not technicians, and we explain any part name the first time it comes up.

How an answer gets here

  1. We look at what the top search results already say and where they fall short or disagree.
  2. We go to primary sources: the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR and the EPA, building codes, national labs and university research, and manufacturer manuals.
  3. An editor checks every number against its source before publishing.
  4. A Texas-licensed air conditioning contractor reviews the guide. His name appears on a guide only after he approves it.

The full process is on How we review.
